Welcome to The Gravesend Historical Society

Welcome to The Gravesend Historical Society

The Gravesend Historical Society was formed in 1924 and is one of the largest in Kent with 200+ members. Although the Society is called 'The Gravesend Historical Society' it encompasses Northfleet and surrounding Parishes in The Gravesham Borough Council area in North West Kent.

We hold a series of winter lectures at The Chantry School, Ordnance Road, Gravesend. Also summer visits, footpath walks and a well attended Social Evening. Members give lectures on local history, give guided walks and help with historical matters and research in the Gravesend area.

The Society publishes its Transactions in a publication, 'Historic Gravesham', which reached issue 54 in 2008, and is free to members. Back issues of this informative booklet are available from the Society and from Milton Chantry in The Fort Gardens, Gravesend.

New members are always welcome and if you wish to join, the current membership fee is £9.00. You may obtain an application form at one of our Winter lectures or by writing to:
